“The JET program was a wonderful experience
for me. It allowed me to indulge in a different culture of teaching/learning in another part of the
world. In such a short period I got the opportunity to visit several schools in Minnesota offering
different programs to parents and students. One of the things that stood out for me was the
early intervention program for students who need extra assistance. Seeing them being pulled
out without being noticed by others and getting the assistance needed at such an early age is a
plus. We have these programs here but at a later stage which in my opinion is sometimes a
little too late.”

I feel so fortunate to have had the opportunity to participate in the amazing JET Program. Being
immersed in the Jamaican community, culture and education system for the week was an
incredible learning experience. My teaching practice and goals for our school community have
grown through learning from and partnering with the teachers in Jamaica. The experience
rounded out with the Jamaican teachers' visit to Minnesota. We loved sharing our classrooms
and school with them, and being able to reflect on and find the similarities in our students and
teaching experiences.

“I am so thankful I was selected to join JET’s trip to
Jamaica. Having the chance to not only visit Jamaica and see its beauty, but more
importantly to also step into daily life, building relationships with our Jamaican
colleagues was an opportunity like no other. I loved getting to learn about and
experience another school system by being immersed in the classrooms and taking part
in professional development. We had the chance to see multiple grades in a variety of
school settings, learning something new in each one. I learned so much to bring back
to my classroom in Minnesota! My students were excited to learn about Jamaican
culture and schools. When our Jamaican teacher friends visited our school, my first
graders were completely starstruck! Thank you JET for such a unique opportunity!”

I am beyond grateful to be a part of this wonderful
learning experience. I was given the opportunity
To fully understand the diversities of the various classrooms while paying special attention
To uniqueness to each. This experience has impacted my life so much to the point where I
have started to incorporate
Some of the techniques and practices that were learnt. This program really impacts the growth
and development of all educators and MUST be continued. Thank you JET for a grand gesture
and wonderful learning experience.

“The JET program was a great experience filled
with lots of enthusiasm and a welcoming environment for growth. The leaders of the
program did a great job with our accommodations, transportation, recreational activities
and meals. Visiting the various schools added to the experience and I was able to take
back things I learned to the Jamaican classroom to better facilitate and plan lessons.
Sharing my experience with international teachers and taking from them enhanced the
experience even better. It was great.”

“My experience with the JET program was a
once in a lifetime opportunity! I met some very dedicated educators from Jamaica and
developed some relationships that I hope will continue for a long time. I learned about
the Jamaican culture first hand and how school is conducted there. I learned about
some things that are done differently, but also some things that are similar. The most
important similarity is that teachers care about their students and they do everything
they can to make sure students know they are cared for.”

Rarely do we as educators have the opportunity to
freely observe and collaborate with teachers outside of our own sphere. Participating in
the Jamaican Exchange in Teaching program broadened our sphere and open up a
whole new world in which we were able to learn from and alongside teachers in a
school system very different from our own. We were also able to make personal
connections with the students and teachers, revealing that despite the differences in
curricula and practices, at the heart of it all, we all worry about and struggle with the
same demands and pressures as educators. The cross-cultural experience that JET
made possible was truly impactful. I am beyond grateful I was able to experience this
opportunity and look forward to continuing our relationship with our JET cohort and
leaders!

“The JET program has given me the opportunity to
really understand the diversity of the classroom and the various structures that make it
so unique and interesting. This was evident during the packed week that was used to
visit schools in Minnesota. The experience has helped me as an administrator to be
more aware of what works and strategies that can be incorporated in the Jamaican
system. I have become more aware of how differentiated instruction works. The
program is very prudent to the growth and development of all the individuals that
participate as well as connecting on an educational level. I am truly grateful to work
with the team and look forward to many more connections through the JET program.
Continue to propel towards greater success and integration as together we develop the
children in our care holistically. All the best!
